PROPOSAL FROM ZACHARIADIS: A government official, referring to an article by the leader of the (outlawed) Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Nikos Zachariadis, urging Mr G. Kartalis to lead a struggle against the Greek Rally party and the movement to form a popular front, said the following yesterday: “Something that has been predicted for some time, that is, an attempt by the communists to set up a united front against (Prime Minister Alexandros) Papagos, is gaining and will gain ground among those adhering to the methods of old party politics, who are by their very nature devoid of any popular feeling or any real contact with the grassroots. It is the duty of all good Greeks to take a clear stand against this situation.” Also, one of the leaders of the Liberal party, Mr George Papandreou, said the following: “In Greece, there are three political camps: the Greek Rally, the Center and the Popular Front, which consists of the Communist Party fellow-travelers. Every person must make a clear stand.” One of the leaders of the Democratic Party of Working People, Mr Georgios Kartalis, which Zachariadis was referring to in the abovementioned article, declined to comment.
