DREW PEARSON: Former US president Harry S. Truman would very much like to visit Greece and hopes that he will be able to do so, according to the American radio commentator Drew Pearson who was a guest of the Greek government at a dinner in Athens yesterday. Pearson said that the only reason former president Truman had not yet visited the country was because of US Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, who reportedly told Truman the US government would pay for his ticket to Athens, but from then on, all costs would be born by the former president himself. Truman was reportedly furious with the Secretary of State and replied to him in “language I cannot repeat,” said Pearson. Pearson also said that the Greek government should consider itself lucky because it had only put up with Dulles twice a year, but the American people had to put up with him for 365 days a year. OLYMPIAKOS: The Piraeus-based Olympiakos soccer club, which has won the Greek championship this year, has also won the cup for the same period after defeating Iraklis Thessaloniki in this week’s final by 2-0.
