FDE PARTY: Mr Sophocles Venizelos yesterday announced the foundation of a new political party, the Liberal Democratic Union (FDE), which is expected to have a force of 26 deputies in Parliament. The leader of the Liberal Party, Mr George Papandreou, accused Mr Venizelos of backing down on both written and verbal promises. MAKARIOS: Nicosia, 11 - In a speech he made yesterday on the occasion of Palm Sunday, Archbishop Makarios, the ethnarch of Cyprus, emphasized that the Cypriot people had their own Calvary to climb in order to achieve union with Greece. POLIOMYELITIS VACCINATION: New York, 12 - Poliomyelitis, which in recent years has become a nightmare for millions of people, has finally been beaten by an American, Dr Jonas Salk, working at the University of Pittsburgh under the direction of Professor Thomas Francis of the University of Michigan.
