KARAMANLIS IN THERA: According to telegrams from Thera (Santorini), the Prime Minister, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, Cabinet ministers and other officials have arrived there on board the destroyer Doxa and have begun visiting villages in the quake-stricken region in order to evaluate needs... They first visited the village of Emboreion, where the Prime Minister told the residents that he would help them “regain their happiness” by giving money, materials, plans, engineers, the army, whatever they needed. “But you must assist in the reconstruction effort. You must not sit with your arms folded expecting the State to do everything. Your cooperation will be necessary.” DONATION FROM SWITZERLAND: The Swiss government has given the Greek Red Cross 210,000 drachmas for the quake-stricken populations of the Cycladic Islands. (Exchange rate: 30 drachmas = 1 US dollar). ADAMANTIOS PEPELASIS: Dr Adamantios Pepelasis, professor of economics at Buffalo University in New York State, has arrived in Athens for a visit on the ocean liner Olympia.
