Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

KARAMANLIS-EVROS: Istanbul, 16 - At 10.30 a.m. the Greek minister for public works, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, arrived here with his wife and accompanied by the ministry’s general director, Mr Kanellopoulos, and directors Messrs Lymberidis and Antonopoulos. Mr Karamanlis was welcomed at the airport by the Turkish public works minister, Mr Zeydinoglu, and Greek consular officials. The Greek minister told the press of his conviction that he would soon reach agreement with his Turkish counterpart regarding anti-flood measures on the Evros River. CHURCH AND KAZANTZAKIS: The Holy Synod has sent its ruling on the works of the writer Mr Nikos Kazantzakis “Christ Recrucified” and “The Last Temptation of Christ” to the Ecumenical Patriarchate to await its decision, since the author, as a native of the island of Crete, comes under the Patriarchate’s jurisdiction. HEROGIORGOU: The famous pianist Maria Herogiorgou has returned from Egypt. Mrs Herogiorgou had been invited by the director of the Alexandria conservatory and symphony orchestra, Mr Guarino, to perform as a soloist at a concert of works by Greek composers.
