Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

FAULKNER IN GREECE: Charlottesville, Virginia, 16 – The famous American writer William Faulkner, winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, left today by air for Greece where he is to stay for two weeks as the official guest of the Greek government. Faulkner will visit the country’s universities while he is here and attend a performance of his play “Requiem for a Nun.” (Ed. note: the play, in the stage version by Albert Camus and translated by Marios Ploritis, was directed by Dimitris Myrat at the Kotopouli Theater. With him on stage were Voula Zoubmoulaki, Tzoli Garbi, Stefanos Linaios, Yiannis Argyris and Christos Tsaganeas.) BERTOLT BRECHT: (From “An Athenian’s Notes”): The German dramatist Bertolt Brecht’s play “The Caucasian Chalk Circle” is currently being performed at the Art Theater. The French monthly magazine L’Europe has devoted a special edition to Brecht, including translations into French of his poems and an unpublished play “The Decision,” his writings on the dramatic art and excerpts from an unpublished novel “The Business Affairs of Mr Julius Caesar” (a kind of diary kept by the secretary/slave of the famous Roman ruler).
