Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

GEORGE V. ALLEN: New York, 16 (From Kathimerini correspondent Solon Kontomitros) – US Ambassador to Greece George V. Allen has resigned and has been appointed director of the US Information Agency. Details were not made known, but it is believed that Allen, due to the complications in Greek-Turkish relations and Turkey’s intransigence over Cyprus, had asked to be replaced immediately as he was unable to carry out his duties in Greece. According to other rumors, US Secretary of State John Foster Dulles appointed Allen to his new post for two reasons: first, because of his failure in his mission in Greece and, second, because of Allen’s insistence that Greece should be treated with greater caution because of the risks involved in the US showing a clear partiality toward Turkey. AT THE USIS: Washington, 16 – According to a statement from the White House, the US ambassador to Greece, George Allen, was today appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to succeed Arthur Larson as head of the USIA. Larson is moving to the service that is fighting Russian propaganda surrounding its successful launch of a satellite.
