COLD WAR: London, 18 – Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko has warned of the risk of an atomic war breaking out due to flights by American bomber planes over the North Pole toward Soviet air space. Gromyko’s statements create an even more explosive problem in international relations, coming right after the first exploratory contacts between East and West in Moscow. Gromyko explained that the flights were obviously taking place in a climate of fear of war arising when any suspicious object appears on American radar, even if it is only a meteorite shower or electronic noise. These accusations, accompanied by an immediate demand to convene the UN Security Council to examine the dangerous situation, prompted an immediate response from Washington. A lengthy announcement by the State Department rejected the Soviet claims and stated that the USA has agreed to an immediate discussion of the problem that had arisen at the United Nations. ELECTRONIC TELESCOPE: Paris – The director of the Paris observatory has presented to the Academy of Science the impressive results of what can be achieved by an electronic telescope, invented and constructed by Lallemand and Dussel.
