SPLITTING THE CITY: (From a commentary in Kathimerini) Any reasonable sacrifice could have been demanded in order to avoid splitting a large part of Athens into two (during the extension of the urban rail network from Attiki station to Kifissia) by means of a ditch to enable the railway line to pass through. If this is eventually done, as seems certain, the disastrous results will be an obstacle to progress in this part of the city for centuries to come. It is sad that there is such indifference to this problem and that we don’t appear to want to know about it. THE NEW ALLIES: (From a commentary in Kathimerini) We believe that what Soviet Trade Minister Mr Mikoyan said about Bulgaria’s great progress in the sector of reconstruction in comparison with Greece is true. Bulgaria began reconstruction from the period of the Second World War, when its heroic youth demolished Western Thrace and transported it all onto Bulgarian territory, everything from railway carriages, machines and commercial goods to gas canisters.
