Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

FROM EINFIELD TO M-1: According to reliable sources, the Greek army, following a decision by the Pentagon and a recommendation to the relevant military authorities of NATO and the American Military Mission in Greece, is to be supplied with the latest type of American-built rifle, known as the M-1. The decision is of particular significance for the Greek armed forces, since it will enormously increase the total firing strength of the Greek army, which until now has mostly been using British Enfield 303s. CONSTANTINE KARAMANLIS: Thessaloniki, 22: On Friday (March 25) Minister for Transport and Public Works Mr Constantine Karamanlis is to arrive here to attend Independence Day celebrations and then a meeting on the city’s transport system. CHRISTOS KAROUZOS: The Bavarian Academy of Sciences, in a meeting on February 25, elected Mr Christos Karouzos, director of the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, as an alternate member to replace the position left vacant following the death of the famous German archaeologist Ludwig Curtius.
