POLITICIANS AND JUDGES: According to an announcement by the Justice Ministry, the number of inmates in the country’s prisons on December 31, 1954 stood at 8,946, which compared to 6,406 on September 30, 1940 represents an increase of 2,540. The number of prisoners per category is as follows: 2,627 for violations of the third resolution and Law 509 on “protecting the social status quo” and for robbery, 387 for cooperating with the enemy (collaborators), 3,148 for attempts against a person’s life and for bodily harm, 1,263 for crimes against property, 338 for crimes against public morals and family order, 71 for crimes against personal liberties and honor, 150 for vagrancy, begging and drug offenses, and 962 for various other crimes.
