OLYMPIC GAMES: Helsinki, 25 (From our correspondent Athanassios Sebos) - Before a crowd of 70,000 spectators, the youth of the world continued their noble contest for the victors’ wreaths in the Olympic Stadium. (...) The 3,000-meter hurdle race was won by the American, Ashenfelder, setting a new Olympic record of 8:45.4 minutes (...). The first two places in the 400 meters were won by the Jamaicans, Roden with 45.9 (a new Olympic record) and McKinley, also with 45.9 seconds (...). Our champion, Mr Cosmas, participated in the decathlon but withdrew after he pierced his hand on the spikes of his shoe during the long jump. In the 100 meters he set a time of just 11.5, earning him 736 points and in his only try at the long jump he achieved 6.20 meters, gaining 1,298 points. He was expected to win good placement. (...) At a friendly soccer match in the town of Hamelina between the Greek and British teams, Greece won 4-2. NEW GOVERNOR: It has been announced that the supreme military council has appointed Colonel Pantazis of the infantry as governor of (the penal settlement on) the island of Makronisos. PLASTIRAS’S HEALTH: Patras, 25 (From our correspondent) - The minister to the prime minister, Mr G. Athanassiadis-Novas, has arrived here on board the ship Angelika. Replying to questions, the minister said that the health of Prime Minister Nikolaos Plastiras is improving and that it is believed he will return to Greece within a few days.
