LAURIS NORSTAD: The Hague – The supreme commander of the Allied forces in Europe, Wing Commander General Lauris Norstad, in an interview with a Dutch weekly, explained the reasons for the necessity of keeping American forces in Europe. “In the event that American troops were to withdraw from Western Europe, they would not be able to return there in the event of unresolved conflicts. On the other hand, the Russians could easily enter Western Europe within a few hours,” he said. “I prefer to have greater security than to have a permanent worry. I am convinced that the United States will not bring about that security at the expense of Europe,” he added. DIMITRIS ROIDOS: The funeral of Greek composer Dimitris Roidos was held at Athens First Cemetery yesterday. Roidos, who was 95 when he died, mainly composed songs for chamber orchestras and choirs. TITO ON BALKANS: Belgrade – Yugoslav President Field Marshal Josip Broz Tito, when asked whether the Balkan Treaty could be revived, said: “I do not see the need for it today...
