Selection: Michalis Katsigeras

ACTING ETHNARCH: London, 29 - Britain’s audacity reached new heights today when Cyprus Governor Field Marshal Sir John Harding ordered the house arrest of the acting ethnarch - in the place of the exiled archbishop, Makarios - Bishop Anthimos. This heinous act, which has prompted a wave of outrage across the island, was not explained by any official source. Only Reuters announced that Anthimos’s name had been referred to in the forged “diary” of the leader of the National Cypriot Fighters’ Organization (EOKA), Colonel Georgios Grivas (Digenis). The bishop had exposed this lie by the British Ministry for the colonies, confirming that he had never met with Grivas. EOKA: Digenis’s men have resumed their action in Cyprus, having thrown a bomb into the garden of the home of a British brigadier. FRENCH TROOPS IN CYPRUS: Paris, 29 - The French Foreign Ministry has announced that due to the Suez crisis, it has asked for and received permission from Britain for French troops to be stationed temporarily in Cyprus to protect French subjects and their interests in the eastern Mediterranean. The announcement did not mention the size of the French force nor when they would be sent to Cyprus.
