Hellenic Shipyards workers protesting in central Athens yesterday against recent (and feared future) layoffs. The German management of the facility, controlled by Thyssen Krupp, recently defended the layoff of 12 workers as part of a modernization drive to make the facility among the most competitive in the Mediterranean. The shipyards, it said, want to hire 25 more highly skilled staff to improve know-how.
