Sluggish day sees stocks fall

Stocks posted a moderate decline on the local bourse yesterday, with turnover remaining at particularly low levels. The holiday on Wall Street yesterday can partly explain the sleepy Greek market.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) closed at 3,268.92 points yesterday, a 0.72 percent drop from last Friday. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.74 percent to 1,796.67 points.

The few blue chips to post gains were Viohalco (up 2.42 percent), Bank of Cyprus (1.42 percent), Intralot (0.70 percent) and OTE telecom (0.41 percent). Leading losers were the stocks of Titan (down 7.01 percent), Mytilineos (2.01 percent), Public Power Corporation (1.86 percent), Alpha Bank (1.83 percent) and Piraeus Bank (1.73 percent).

Turnover reached 115.4 million euros.
