Stocks in the Athens market closed the day with losers outnumbering gainers by 5 to 2, even though for most of the session the index moved upward.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 4,904.58 points, down from 4,912.53 points on Friday, a 0.16 percent drop. The FTSE/ATHEX 20 blue chip index declined by 0.33 percent to 2,612.01 points. The FTSE/ATHEX Mid-40 fell by 0.38 percent and the FTSE/ATHEX 80 small-cap index by 0.71 percent. The FTSE/ATHEX International shed 0.35 percent to close at 6,990.58 points.

Among blue chips Hellenic Technodomiki TEV had the greatest gains (up 3.52 percent), ahead of Coca-Cola HBC (2.80 percent), Emporiki Bank (2.31 percent), EFG Eurobank (1.76 percent) and the National Bank of Greece (1.24 percent). Leading losers were Piraeus Bank (3.98 percent), OPAP (2.68 percent), Bank of Cyprus (1.79 percent) and Titan (1.27 percent).

All but four sectoral indices posted losses, led by utilities (down 2.31 percent), travel and recreation (1.92 percent) and media (1.43 percent). The biggest gains were for food and wine (up 1.90 percent), followed by raw materials (0.67 percent).

Turnover came to –362.74 million, of which –65.27 million involved block trades.
