Drop continues for local stocks

The local bourse failed yesterday to fall in with its foreign peers, which posted rebounds during the day but ended their sessions with losses.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,804.95 points yesterday, falling 0.85 percent from Thursday, although it had fallen by as much as 2.36 percent at one point. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 0.97 percent to close at 1,559.57 points.

Hellenic Postbank (up 7.56 percent) led yesterday’s gainers, followed by Mytilineos (3.57 percent), Hellenic Petroleum (2.45 percent), Marfin Investment Group (2.09 percent) and OTE telecom (2.08 percent). Heading south were Hellaktor (down 5.69 percent), Bank of Cyprus (5.56 percent), Public Power Corporation (3.45 percent), National Bank (2.36 percent) and Marfin Popular Bank (2.20 percent).

Turnover came to 227.3 million euros.
