Action centers on mid-caps

For the fifth session in a row, stocks on the Greek bourse registered gains yesterday, with mid-caps experiencing a particularly good day.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,118.63 points, growing by 2.83 percent. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 2.47 percent to end at 1,137.99 points, while the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index gained 4.37 percent.

All but two blue chips moved northward, led by Mytilineos (up 9.80 percent), Hellenic Postbank (8.64 percent), Coca-Cola HBC (8.26 percent), Public Power Corporation (7.05 percent), National Bank (5.15 percent) and Bank of Cyprus (4.95 percent). The only losers were EFG Eurobank (down 1.89 percent) and OPAP (0.70 percent). Health stocks in particular posted a great increase, with their sectoral index rising by 11.54 percent.

Turnover reached 237.5 million euros.
