Stocks descend nearly 1 pct

Greek stocks retreated nearly 1 percent yesterday on the back of losses in blue chip stocks, bucking an upward trend on European markets.

The general index on the Athens Exchange (ATHEX) slipped 0.98 percent to 3,839.44 points.

Public Power Corporation (PPC) was among the session’s biggest losers, dropping 2.04 percent to 24 euros, while Marfin Investment Group (MIG) dropped 3.17 percent to 5.50 euros.

Mytilineos Holdings rose for a second day, adding 8 cents, or 1 percent, to 7.90 euros. The metals and energy group agreed to buy Dong Energy’s wind-energy operations in Greece for 28 million euros.

Turnover fell to 320.2 million euros from 350 million euros in the previous session.
