Investors weigh up profit-taking

Investors will be looking for signs today as to whether the Athens bourse can continue its recent good run, which has lifted the broader market 28 percent higher over the last month.

In early trade yesterday, Wall Street got off to a weak start as investors awaited a flurry of earnings reports and readings that could provide insight into the direction of the economy. Major stock indicators fell about 1 percent, including the Dow Jones industrial average, which dropped about 100 points. On Thursday, the Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index jumped more than 4 percent, supported by solid bank gains. An annual report from the Bank of Greece, due out tomorrow, will provide investors with more on the state of the Greek economy. The Athens bourse reopens today after being closed due to the Western Easter holiday.
