Stocks suffer new battering

For a seventh day in succession, stocks continued their decline despite the improvement in the international financial climate yesterday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) closed at 3,699.00 points, 1.08 percent lower than last Friday. The accumulated losses in the last seven sessions have dragged the index 10.28 percent lower. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 0.54 percent to 1,984.30 points.

Many blue chips featured in the list of stocks with the worst losses. Worst off were Coca-Cola HBC (down 8.73), on top of a 24 percent slide last week, and power utility PPC (5.68 percent). Bucking the trend were Marfin Popular Bank (up 4.38 percent), Motor Oil (3.01 percent) and Hellenic Technodomiki (2.64 percent).

Turnover reached 417.5 million euros.
