Athens bourse up 1.17 percent

Greek equities started the week on a positive note, adding more than 1 percent as banks outperformed the broader market.

The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index added 1.17 percent to 2,171.26 points after spending parts of the session in negative territory.

Banks advanced 1.52 percent. National Bank, the country’s largest lender, gained 2.49 percent to 17.32 euros and Marfin Popular Bank jumped 5.43 percent to 2.33 euros.

Coca-Cola Hellenic gained 2.09 percent to 13.68 euros while OTE telecom slipped 1.60 percent to 11.04 euros.

Public Power Corporation (PPC), scheduled to report first-quarter figures today, gained 1.42 percent to 14.30 euros.

Turnover eased to 155.4 million euros from 217.4 million euros in the previous session.
