The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) benchmark index yesterday fell to its lowest level in more than a week, losing 1.6 percent to 4,285.54 points. The FTSE/ASE 20 index of the country’s largest companies declined 2 percent to 2,234.90.

The following were among the most active stocks.

Aegean Airlines fell 1.4 percent, the biggest decline in three days, despite announcing a 39 percent rise in profit to –35.8 million last year.

Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company added 3.1 percent, ending three days of losses. CCHBC and Alpha Bank, which added 0.3 percent, were the only blue chips to stay afloat.

By contrast, Viohalco tumbled 5.5 percent, Marfin Investment Group slumped 5 percent, OTE sank 4 percent, and Mytilineos and Marfin Popular Bank dropped 3.8 percent each.

Elektroniki Athinon climbed 1.1 percent, the highest since January 22. The electronic appliances retailer reported a 23 percent increase in profit in its fiscal first half as sales gained.

Folli-Follie fell 1.1 percent, the biggest decline in more than a week. The jewelry and handbag retailer is in talks with the main shareholders of closely held clothing retailer Lapin House to either buy a stake or extend an existing alliance.
