Focus shifts to smaller stocks

The rise in stocks on the local bourse continued yesterday, taking the main index above the 1,900-point level as investors focused on mid- and small-caps.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index climbed to 1,905.92 points, rising by 0.60 percent against Wednesday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 0.23 percent to end at 961.54 points. However, the mid- and small-cap indices posted growth of 2.36 percent and 2.40 percent respectively.

Rising highest among blue chips were the stocks of Mytilineos (up 6.23 percent), Motor Oil (6.11 percent), Viohalco (3.58 percent) and OPAP (2.38 percent). On the losing side, Public Power Corporation declined by 3.64 percent and Marfin Investment Group dropped 2.05 percent.

Turnover reached 143 million euros.
