PPC dives, dragging whole market down

Stock Exchange, dragged lower by the adverse performance of Public Power Corporation.

The ASE composite share index closed at 4,643.14 points, a drop of 23.22 points or 0.50 percent. On a weekly basis, it dropped 0.75 percent, limiting the gains this year to 5.67 percent. The index gained 3.09 percent in March.

The FTSE/Athex 20 index of blue chips declined 1.54 percent to close at 2,503.82 points. Mid-caps gained 0.23 percent and small-caps declined 0.05 percent. The FTSE/Athex International declined 0.39 percent, closing at 6,615.37 points.

Ten out of 17 sectoral indices declined. The top gainers were personal and household goods (0.86 percent), health (0.83 percent) and media (0.77 percent). The top losers were utilities (3.19 percent), foods and beverages (1.18 percent) and insurance (1.11 percent).

Among blue chips, the top gainers were construction group Hellenic Technodomiki (1.29 percent to 11.00), refiner Motor Oil (1.07 percent to 20.82) and metals group Viohalco (1.05 percent to 11.54). The top losers were PPC (3.58 percent to 18.32). mobile telecommunications company Cosmote (2.10 percent to 22.42), bottler Coca-Cola HBC (1.56 percent to 31.50), cement maker Titan (1.46 percent to 40.40) and National Bank (1.39 percent to 39.70).
