Lacking adequate buildings, long-term planning and attractive surroundings, they are failing to live up to expectations

In leading museums abroad, visitors are honored guests. Everything – from the quality and lighting of the exhibits to the museum shop and the cafe – has made to please them.

Museums in Greece try to be visitor-friendly, but the obstacles they face are apparent the moment one steps inside.

It is a transitional period, as Kathimerini found out upon an inspection of the Athenian “museum mile” on Vassilissis Sofias Avenue, and elsewhere in Athens and Thessaloniki.
