The fast-changing nature of education
For primary school pupils in Kalyvia, near Athens, learning to use the Internet and other modern technologies is a multidimensional experience

By Matthaios Tsimitakis - Kathimerini

The three new programs for digital activities in schools which Economy Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis and Education Minister Evripidis Stylianidis announced last Monday are a partial embrace of what some see as the greatest revolution ever in education. Given the speed of developments in the global village, education has to keep abreast of developments in technology. Computers and other new technologies (such as cell phones and interactive screens) provide new tools for the learning process and change its very nature. It changes school from a one-dimensional activity to a multidimensional event where a single textbook gives way to multiple online sources, and the teacher goes from being the leader of the lesson to being an aide in an ongoing quest. The first lesson in the Greek digital school will be to teach children how to learn on their own.
