Corruption and nepotism are tumors on the body politic
Nikiforos Diamandouros, the new European Ombudsman, in an interview with Kathimerini

The Greek Ombudsman, Nikiforos Diamandouros, will see his remit stretch to the whole of Europe as of April 1, when he will leave his post in Greece to take up that of European Ombudsman. In an interview with Kathimerini, he talked about corruption in public services, the areas where graft flourishes, and the mutual suspicion between the State and citizens. Though public services may work correctly in four out of 10 cases, people are convinced that they have been unjustly treated — confirmation of the depth of mistrust, he said. But dealing with corruption, Diamandouros warned, needed “clear political will.” Debates in Parliament would hardly do the trick, he said.
