Not that pious after all...
The Greek public can only watch dumbfounded as the country's bishops humiliate themselves on television, tossing barbs at each other and trading accusations of forgery, blackmail, dissolute living, even drug trafficking.

The main opposition party's habit of charging the government with amnesia or selective memory - in other words, accusing it of making juicy pre-election pledges that it can't fulfill - is understandable; but the results of this approach are poor.

Is pension reform too hot to handle?
We all know very well how governments will do anything to avoid tackling problems that bear a high political cost. Topping the list of such problems is social security reform... We don't need to be reminded of the panic-stricken backtracking of the last PASOK government in 2001 when its proposed pension legislation caused an uproar among workers, unionists and even some party members. New Democracy - then in opposition...
