FYROM veto seems likely
Athens defiant in face of growing US pressure for Skopje’s NATO accession

Athens yesterday dug its heels in further on the Macedonia name dispute, saying it would veto Skopje's bid to join NATO at an alliance summit this week unless a compromise is reached on the Balkan country's name.

EDITORIAL
No deal, no NATO
We can only welcome the fact that the Socialist opposition leader George Papandreou has asked for a meeting with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis that will take place early today. The meeting between the two leaders is sending the right message. As Karamanlis will be meeting with the other leaders of NATO member states in Bucharest, he will have the majority of Greece's public behind him.
COMMENTARY
It’s just a day, it’ll pass
It's a good thing that the prime minister himself has asked for the pension reform bill to be reviewed, that he knows that despite Parliament's broad support for the bill, the people had already spoken through numerous protests marches and public opinion polls, that he also knows that a «no» - no change to basic retirement ages, no increase in social security contributions and no reductions in main pensions, as promised in his pre-election campaign - can never become a «yes.»
