Remedying health wastefulness
Healthcare spending poses one of the biggest economic threats to the survival of any welfare state. Even a tightfisted welfare system is strained by new technologies that add to the financial burden. It's not hard to imagine the pressure on Greece's welfare state, one that is mired in a lack of transparency and the squandering of public money. Faced with these threats, a modern state can only address the concerns on wastefulness.
COMMENTARY
NATO’s helping hand
It should come as no surprise that Turkey has tried to classify the Aegean island of Aghios Efstratios as a demilitarized area. Since there is no explicit reference in the Lausanne Treaty, the Turkish theory goes, it could even be classed as a gray area - such as happened with Gavdos. But Turkish policymakers know better than that.
