Budget targets are set
Gov’t aims to lower deficit with strong growth, tight fiscal policy

The 2008 budget, unveiled by the government yesterday, aims at cutting the deficit by almost one percentage point to 1.7 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), with the help of a robust economy and a tight fiscal policy.

Taking the color out of corruption
The current tax rate on fuel may have been easy on households. However, at the same time it seems to have encouraged a great deal of tax dodging and corruption. Entire businesses have lived off the illegal practice of decoloring oil and some people were thus able to make fortunes at the expense of the common good. All wise-headed people therefore welcome the government's decision to clamp down on this unlawful practice...

PASOK's crisis is not just a leadership crisis. It's also a political crisis. And it concerns not only the Socialist barons but society itself: Society can sense the symptoms of an ailing PASOK, the biggest political party in the post-1974 period. Wise-headed people worry whether PASOK will continue to exist as a united and battle-ready party and how this can come about. The answer will determine the shape of our body politic.
