PM calling time on Turkey Ankara slammed for slow pace of reforms as EU talks on Cyprus canceled

The government yesterday intensified criticism against Turkey for failing to implement basic European Union-oriented reforms after EU president Finland said that talks scheduled for Sunday, aimed at averting the collapse of Ankara's EU bid, had been canceled.

Media vulgarity knows no bounds
Hopes that the ever increasing vulgarity on our television stations would have reached rock bottom have proved futile. Year after year, month after month, there are more and more sacrifices made on the altar of perverted competition. A few days ago, the nation was treated to pornographic images of children.
COMMENTARY
Electing the president
Rarely has a parliamentary debate touched upon the heart of an issue as it did during discussions for reviewing the presidential election system. The existing provision allows opposition parties to use the vote as a lever for triggering early elections - although it must be said that no serious problems have emerged so far, as parties fear a public backlash against perceived abuse of power.
