Man at the crossroads
Man is the sole being to have changed the face of the Earth. In February, the largest meeting of scientists ever organized by the United Nations said that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases were responsible for the phenomenon of global warming. In April, the same network of some 2,000 scientists concluded that the phenomenon was having an impact on weather conditions, the oceans and the environment.
COMMENTARY
Where does Europe end?
Turkey is not Europe but Asia, said Nicolas Sarkozy during the televised debate with his Socialist rival Segolene Royal. In other words, Asia Minor - birthplace of the third century Christian saint after whom the presidential candidate was named - is not Europe.
OPINION
Expendables in the TV cattle market
Hundreds of thousands of people - be it due to exhaustion, boredom, financial constrictions, addiction, family pressures or whatever else - fix themselves in front of the television every day under the delusion that they are escaping from reality when actually they are rooted right inside it. Also every day, hundreds - maybe even thousands - of people find themselves literally inside the world of television, representing the raw material of the broadcasted spectacle.
