Out of proportion
The explosion of three homemade bombs at the Kallithea police station yesterday was no doubt an unfortunate incident - even more so against the backdrop of Public Order Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis's visit to the US for discussions with CIA and FBI agents on Olympic security issues. It was an unwelcome but at the same time insignificant incident - which by no means justifies the furor that followed.
COMMENTARY
Olympic double vision
Yesterday's bomb attack on the Kallithea police station was a wake-up call. Not due to the significance of the attack itself, because it was neither big enough to cause much damage nor in a place or time where it could injure passers-by. But it showed that on the issue of Olympic security the way in which we see such incidents in Greece is wildly out of synch with the way the rest of the world does.

Defense contracts
"Whatever evidence the judicial authorities need, they will get,» Defense Minister Spilios Spiliotopoulos told the Inner Cabinet during a debate on the concerns and priorities of his ministry. While this may strike one as a self-evident assertion, it is also a very promising one. Let's hope that a current investigation will get to the bottom of a sensitive issue...
