New habits in public transport
Respect for the Olympic traffic regulations by Athens's drivers demonstrates that the city's inhabitants are receptive to a new mentality with regard to getting around in Greece's highly congested capital. Only a limited number of drivers flouted the emergency traffic regulations, crossing into the Olympic lanes reserved for Olympic athletes and officials.
COMMENTARY
Spectacular show
The huge operation to stage the spectacular show opening August 13 is nearing completion and Athens is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Each of the responsible officials involved in this mammoth task - apart from the athletes, the undisputed protagonists of the event - has his or her own agenda. Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and his administration are seeking to project an image of Greece as a country that can live up to extraordinary challenges.

Greeks gradually embrace Games
People want concrete results in order to be convinced. It was easy for us to grasp the benefits of the Games - namely the promotion and development of our country - but we were all fed up with the fancy words. However, the handover of several major infrastructure works during the last few months provoked a gradual change in attitude. Now, the majority of citizens can appreciate and enjoy that which they have been entitled to for many years...
