Face to face on FYROM
Athens and Skopje diplomats to meet next month; mediator hopes for deal

Greece's dispute with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) over the neighboring country's name is «solvable» and a new round of direct talks between Athens and Skopje, under United Nations supervision, in January will aim to do just that, UN envoy Matthew Nimetz said yesterday.

COMMENTARY
Placating Turkey
In what has become par for the course, the official visit by the Turkish foreign minister was accompanied by a military provocation. It appears that despite Ali Babacan's pro-European and relatively moderate profile, Ankara is sticking to its strategy. Even if the agenda of Recep Tayyip Erdogan's administration does not always coincide with the priorities of the deep state in Ankara, the basic parameters are the same.
