Why yet another university?
As the quality of the education received at the country's universities drops with each year that goes by, the government has decided upon a policy that was popular under opposition PASOK rule, which is scattering universities all over Greece. The government's announcement that it will be opening the country's 23rd university (without having first ensured the adequate operation of the other 22) came as a surprise because, when New Democracy was in opposition, it had rightly condemned such policies in no uncertain terms.

Talk is cheap
Although the term «epicurean» has come to describe a person devoted to the pursuit of sensual pleasure, Epicurus was wise and moderate and condemned man's destructive passion for political climbing. He made a distinction between the discourse used in celebratory speeches and that used in the people's assembly and courtrooms. When people speak in the people's assembly, the ancient philosopher said, they put their reputation at stake.
You can’t bank on anything...
People are getting very, very worried about the consequences of the financial crisis that is rocking the United States and which this week began to shake Europe. With the news of one bank after another being rescued by government intervention in the United States and Europe, Greeks are wondering what is happening to their banks and their deposits. Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has repeatedly said that the crisis will not affect the Greek banking sector.
