EDITORIAL
Double standards or sheer hypocrisy?
Politics is rife with double standards, but sometimes it goes too far. The case of the former employment minister's zoning infringement and that of the current public works minister is one outrageous example. The former lost his government post, while the latter insists on trying to justify the unjustifiable. One can only wonder to what degree the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works Ministry believes its chief is entitled to impunity or deserves special media treatment.
COMMENTARY
Wars over bread
The wars of the 21st century may be fought over water, but even before these wars break out we are witnessing violent social unrest in developing countries over bread. In Haiti and Egypt, at opposite ends of the world, people are bleeding and dying over bread shortages and increasingly expensive wheat and rice. A few months ago, Europeans were up in arms for the same reason. The French were protesting the price of the baguette and the Italians that of pasta.
