Costas Karamanlis is the fourth Greek prime minister to visit Cyprus since the republic was founded. The first was Andreas Papandreou, as recently as 1982, who initiated official contacts between the Greek and Cypriot political leaderships.

John Martinkus's story appeared on Freelance UK's website on Monday. We have seen terrorists making use of the Internet to spread the horror of their beheading hostages, but we had never imagined they would use the same medium to spare the life of one.

If there is a general consensus that the death of Yasser Arafat signals the end of an era, it is also true that there is widespread fear of what may happen in this new era following the departure of the historic Palestinian leader. This is true of everyone except those on the «other side» who, apart from making unacceptable comments about the death of their rival, are no doubt also hoping for a greater upheaval so that they can press ahead with their plans...
