FYROM talks this week
Athens may abandon geographical qualifier in favor of ‘New Macedonia’

As diplomats in Athens and Skopje brace for a new round of United Nations-mediated talks on the Macedonia name dispute, sources say the Greek government now prefers the composite name New Macedonia rather than Upper Macedonia which it had favored for its «geographical qualifier.»

Mistakes and sheer stubbornness
The manner in which public figures behave is one of the biggest, most vehemently discussed topics on the public debate agenda at the present time. The debate, however, is not about the magnitude of their transgressions or their failure to adhere to zoning laws, nor is it about the amount of time it takes for fines to be imposed or contested. The issue at hand is about how a public figure, the virtuous man, sees his role in society: as a privilege or as a duty, as mere routine or as a paradigm?
COMMENTARY
The flame that got away
The protests that have dogged the Olympic Flame from continent to continent provide a unique spectacle in which we see the coming together of spirit and matter, the symbolic and the real, power and resistance. Instead of «spoiling» the torch relay, the protests have given it meaning far beyond that of a simple transit from country to country announcing the Beijing Olympics and heralding the rising giant who will host the Games in August.
