EDITORIAL
A symbolic gesture
When the state fails to live up to its role and purpose, the situation calls for a response from society, in deed and not only in words. The demolition yesterday by a private individual of an illegally constructed building inside the Syngrou forest is a way of clamping down on urban anarchy. The act set an example for every citizen frustrated by the inertia of the state apparatus. That said, citizens must strictly abide by the law and respect legal procedures. It should not escape our attention that the demolished property was designated as illegal after a non-appealable court ruling.
COMMENTARY
Bad hosts
The tourism industry remains one of Greece's strongest cards. According to the National Statistics Service, some 15.7 million tourists visited Greece last year and the figure this year is expected to be over 16 million (with obvious economic benefits). The private sector has sought to capitalize on the soaring numbers by modernizing existing accommodation or creating new infrastructure.
