Time to stand up and be counted
Tomorrow is a big day for democracy. It is the hour of responsibility for Greek citizens - who are called upon to judge politicians and parties and to make a decision on the country's future. The people go to the polls having mostly recovered from the shock of the wildfires. It's time for the wavering and undecided masses to take a stand and determine the country's future direction. Sure, people's rights and responsibilities do not end on election day. And this is something that they must keep in mind.

Determination is what counts
First it was the reports that New Democracy would not garner enough votes to govern on its own. Now, in the light of discouraging secret polls for PASOK, the Socialists' second line of defense is that ND will govern but with a weak majority. And how can ND tackle controversial issues, the theory goes, when a couple of disgruntled MPs could vote the other way and torpedo the move?
Greek housewives should be supported
No doubt exists that the bombshell dropped by the main opposition PASOK leader George Papandreou, just a few days before citizens go to the polls - namely a pledge to grant a monthly pension of 550 euros to uninsured housewives - was a tactic intentionally aimed at attracting votes.
