ND, PASOK name their candidates as survey shows 1 in 10 citizens not planning to vote in June 7 polls

New Democracy and PASOK named their candidates yesterday for the upcoming European parliamentary elections but the latest opinion poll for Sunday's Kathimerini suggests that they could have a tough task on their hands attracting voters' interest as almost one in 10 Greeks is not intending to cast a ballot on June 7.

Questions need to be answered
It appears to be something that Greek politicians fail to grasp, but a large segment of our society is deeply enraged with the domestic political system. The impunity of scandal-tainted politicians, the inability of these politicians to deal with pressing problems and the petty skirmishing between political parties have seriously undermined people's faith in the credibility of the system.

A sinister turn in our immigration problems
In the last few weeks, Athens took a serious fall down the slippery slope of xenophobia and intolerance. Not that it was unexpected: For over a year, anyone who cared about the capital city and its center - as well as anyone who cared about the fate of illegal immigrants - warned that abandoning migrants to their own devices would lead to trouble.
