No more handouts please
Greece has clearly entered the pre-election period. Regardless of when elections are held, the government and opposition must avoid making the same old mistakes. The socialists are hardly convincing when they come up with policy proposals without explaining where the funding will come from. Greek voters are well informed and are able to distinguish between political fireworks and feasible promises. Much of the responsibility however lies with the administration.

The Daily Beast
Politics and journalism cross paths - and swords - in the heart of democracy. For their success, Western societies depend to a great extent on the accountability which journalism imposes on government and state officials. That is why it was so interesting to hear Tony Blair speaking on the issue last week, as he is in a unique position to understand the workings of the news media and whether or not, as he claims, they have damaged his country.
