Poultry exports banned Countries start to put Greek birds on black list as signs of panic appear

The government yesterday slapped a ban on all poultry exports from several eastern Aegean islands after bird flu was detected in the region on Monday amid signs of panic from residents who have been reporting numerous sightings of dead birds across the country.

Panic pandemic
As scientists and the authorities have already warned, bird flu poses a very serious threat. Even if the threat of a human pandemic was absent, the disease would still take its toll on the global economy and the environment. The public relations counterattack launched by the conservative government to offset criticism primarily from the electronic media touched upon a crucial issue. It's natural for the ruling party to come under fire. Yet criticism is not always well intentioned. In the old days, biased commentary reflected media backing for ideologically sympathetic parties.

The TV we deserve?
It has been said countless times: A nation gets the politicians it deserves; perhaps it also gets the television it deserves, although it is difficult to ascertain whether TV channels are giving the people what they want or if they are imposing their own agenda upon the viewers who eventually absorb whatever it is they are fed.
