Our pitiful record in managing landfills
We have not had any pleasant surprises this summer. True to form, there have already been landfill fires and carcinogenic substances have been released into the atmosphere. Soon we will no doubt witness the onset of this year's forest fires, which begin in illegal garbage dumps or are intentionally started by would-be land-grabbers. This recurring pattern of destruction leads to a clear conclusion: that this country has not learnt anything from its unpleasant experiences in the past.

Crime without punishment
Following the incursion of Israeli ground forces into Lebanon, the war has entered a second, more violent, phase. In the role of a modern Pontius Pilate, the West has passively observed the collective punishment of a nation and the destruction of an entire country.
