The New Democracy government is facing from today perhaps its most crucial week since first coming to power in March 2004, as Parliament prepares to vote on two motions regarding an investigation into the Vatopedi property deal that is alleged to have left public coffers some 100 million euros short.

The people expect the whole truth
Political life in Greece has been stirred up into a state of frenzy by the Vatopedi land-swap scandal. Now the citizens of the country are demanding that their politicians reveal the entire truth about the affair and that the prosecutors, in turn, do their duty to the fullest. The Vatopedi affair is big - and also very complex - and should therefore not be made any more complicated by public relations stunts such as filing charges against prosecutors or the minister of justice, or making accusations of treason.

Hell is other people
Athens traffic is a mess. And it is getting worse every day. Everyone wants to be mobile and everyone wants to make things easier for him/herself. And everyone ends up stuck in a traffic jam. We have created a city that is hell to live in. And it's mostly because of the cars - and our inability to make decisions that will make life easier. This may seem an exaggeration. But let's look at the city a little more carefully; let's imagine Athens without cars. It is built on a coastal plain ringed by mountains and is rich in beauty and history.
