Unveiling of bold targets for economy High growth, low deficit forecast

Fighting corruption
Corruption, which has persistently bled Greece's body politic, has recently come to the attention of international organizations and commentators. A European representative of Transparency International, a watchdog, recently took note of the corruption-related problems besetting our country, even while noting some improvement in the situation. In a recent article titled «Costas's Crusade,» The Economist magazine reported on the conservative government's anti-graft campaign.

The EU and national sovereignty
Before the general elections and his becoming prime minister, conservative leader Costas Karamanlis vowed to launch a state tender bill in a bid to bar media owners from securing lucrative state contracts. It matters little whether this was a sound move, even if the overwhelming majority of the public seems to think so. There is also no point in trying to assess the ability of the conservative ministers who actually drafted the legislation. It is vital, on the other hand, that a clear government policy...
